Section 18C of the Medicines and Related Substances Act No 101 of 1965, as amended, provides for an enforceable Code of Practice. The Marketing Code Authority (MCA) enforces the MCA Code of Practice that has been adopted by the health products trade associations to signify the industry’s commitment to ensure that the marketing of health products to healthcare professionals and to the public is carried out in a responsible, ethical and professional manner which is based on practical and scientifically validated information.
The MCA requires that its member companies must ensure that all relevant personnel are certified in the sector where they work. Individuals i.e. not from a healthcare company are also encouraged to achieve a certificate from the MCA. An aspiring Sales’ Representative may cite the MCA certification on their CV.
